James provides day-to-day advice and counsel to employers regarding employment law compliance and HR issues, including Employee Handbooks, policies, non-disclosure/proprietary informaiton/confidentiality agreements, hiring, leaves of absence, discrimination, wage and hour issues, harassment, social media issues in the workplace, severance agreements, and employee termination. Simply, James helps employers navigate the complex maze of federal, state and local employment laws.
James also provides strategic and vigorous litigation defense when employers face claims from current or former employees, contractors, and government agencies. James has represented employers large and small in state and federal courts and in administrative agencies. Typical claims James has defended companies from include wage and hour issues (including unpaid wages, missed meal/rest breaks, misclassification), discrimination (including race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation), harassment, and retaliation. He also defends employers in class/collective actions, and claims brought under the Private Attorney's General Act.
James also conducts workplace investigations and workplace training. He is also often asked to provide presentations and contribute written articles regarding employment law and HR issues.
Porfessionally, James honed his skill working at leading large law firms for approximately 15 years, and he made his way upto a partner. In 2012, James started his own firm in Walnut Creek.
